A zipper is a zipper is a zipper, right? Not exactly. We’ve been getting a lot of questions about luxury zippers, so we thought we’d answer this question here.
In the world of zippers, there are classic zippers, such as nylon coil, plastic molded, and metal zippers. The metal zippers are then separated out into the metal finishes of brass, antique brass, nickel, antique nickel, etc. You’ll see these zippers on your everyday clothes and accessories. They usually work great and in some instances, will need some kind adjustment during its useful life. Producing them is pretty standard and doesn’t take too many “out of the ordinary” processes to produce them.
On the other hand, there are luxury zippers. Most luxury zippers will fall into the metal category because they carry a bit more weight to justify the cost of them. Yes, they do cost quite a bit more. The reason why is because of the way the zippers are produced. Luxury zippers are typically produced with extra care and processes to create an ultra smooth finish and a stunning final product that stands out on whatever it’s being applied to.
When you’re purchasing a handbag that may cost you $3,000.00 – $5,000.00+ you had better hope that the designers took the time to detail every bit and piece of that bag. That includes the hardware and zippers. Basically, it all comes down to the details. I’ve seen all types of garments and handbags come across our desks. The companies that have stuck to their guns and committed themselves to the details are still in business today. The companies that have tried to sell at a higher price point for the sake of just making money and skipping the details are no longer in business.
So if you want to elevate your brand and cater to a discerning group of customers, luxury zippers are the way to go.
